I pulled into Phoenix at 7:30 a.m. to eat at the awful waffle and could not believe how hot it was that early. In Palm Springs, they gave a discount on golf if you agreed to start playing after 8:00 a.m. as few people want to play in that much heat.

Here at home, the oppressive heat doesn't set in until the mid-afternoon. Our humididty is so high, it feels as though the sky is trying to lie down on top of you. But hell, I'm used to that. That part of the country is HOT.

They say it's not the heat, it's the humidity. B.S. It's the heat.BigPiratehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11844560870506467735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9055586.post-1116288362955426212005-05-16T20:06:00.000-04:002005-05-16T20:06:00.000-04:00Some realities about Vegas.1. Call ahead to confirm, but I'm sure of this.

2. Few of the hotels in Las Vegas have shuttles. That would offend the taxicab union (this is not a joke). Some of the chains that cater (primarily) to locals do have shuttles that link their various properties. The Coast casinos (Barbary Coast [strip], Gold Coast [across from the Rio], Orleans, and Sun Coast) are linked. I believe each of the Boyd properties have a shuttle to the Stardust. The Station casinos may also have a shuttle service linking them. That's about it for shuttles.

3. The drive you are thinking about would be beautiful. Fair warning, the desert has turned to quite hot--make sure you take extra water with you if you do make the drive.

Given everything, you may want to consider one of the locals' hotels. Green Valley Ranch (in Henderson) is spectacular. The other Coast, Boyd and Station properties range in price and value. I'm not an expert on what you'll need for your kids so I'll leave that advice to others.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
